If you travel through Jean-Talon métro station, you will probably notice that new signage is currently being tested. Indeed, this first visible step is part of a vast STM project aiming for the complete review of all customer communications within its installations.
This project will allow the STM to establish precise signage standards throughout its network in order to facilitate customer travel.
More precisely, the present approach consists in:
- Standardizing signage to conform with universal accessibility principles and harmonize with corporate brand image;
- adapting information according to various customer groups;
- organizing and prioritizing information according to content (emergency, directional,
service, etc.);
- adding signage to show the location of automatic fare vending machines, service points, elevators, etc.);
- review messages and designations.
This current trial period will assess the legibility, contrasts, visibility, positioning and sign dimensions. Signage mock-ups are displayed in portions of Jean-Talon and Henri-Bourassa stations. Other elements will be introduced progressively during spring 2012 to evaluate signage efficiency and clarity among various customer groups. From the results obtained and comments received, adjustments will be made. We will then examine the materials, anchoring, and lighting systems before finalizing the design and launching mass production. New signage will then be introduced gradually throughout the network.
If you transit through one of these two stations, please do not hesitate to
forward us your comments regarding the new signage.
