On June 19, 1985 the Government adopted Law 49, "modifying the Law
pertaining to the Montreal Urban Community and legislative clauses".
The main change brought about by this law concerns the formation of a
board of directors consisting of nine members, of which six are chosen
by the MUC Council, three elected by suburban towns, two representing
the population (one from Montréal, one from the suburbs) and the
president of the MUC executive committee.

Francine Maltais officially took up her post as bus driver on
October 31, 1977. By the end of 1998, there were 550 female bus
drivers and métro operators. In 2002, women represented 17% of the
STM's workforce. |
